Interplanetary space trader Samuel Curtis (Cory McAbee) is looking for
the deal that will make him rich. He starts out delivering a cat to the
Ceres Crossroads Bar located on an asteroid - his payment is a cloning
device that is cooking up a Real Live Girl (something that is practically
non-existent in deep space). He meets up with his former dance partner,
the Blueberry Pirate (Joshua Taylor), who has a get-rich-scheme: take the
Real Live Girl to Jupiter (a mining planet) and trade with the planet's
owner Lee Vilensky (Peter McRobbie) for the Boy Who Actually Saw A Woman's
Breast (Gregory Russell Cook). Take the Boy to Venus and trade him to Cloris
(Annie Golden) who needs a new stud for the all-female population on her
planet. In exchange, he can take the remains of the last stud home to Earth
for a handsome reward.
As Samuel sets off, what he doesn't know is that his evil nemesis, Professor
Hess (Rocco Sisto) is hot on his trail, killing everyone that Samuel comes
in contact with.
This low-budget black and white film has some truly inspired moments and
the lighting they use makes even the cheesiest "space" sets look
outer-worldly. All of the interplanetary travel is depicted with drawings
so there aren't a lot of special effects. The spaceship itself is reminiscent
of a trash-dumpster with wings and Hess' ray-gun kills - it looks like
something straight out of Flash Gordon. But this is not your typical Saturday matinee
sci-fi movie - the characters break out into song at any moment.
This quirky film is not for everyone and it has some slow parts and some
bad overacting at times. But if you like original, offbeat movies (along
the lines of Eraserhead) this could make for a fun night at the theater.
